Job summary

Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) seeks a Residential Instructor for the Deaf and Blind Boarding program. You will supervise students, document daily activities, and support social and daily living skills within the dorm setting.

The role emphasizes communication with families and adherence to FSDB policies. Shift work includes afternoon and overnight hours; evening reporting and safety duties are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; or completion of a child care program; or one year working with disabled persons.
• Preferred: two or more years of professional full-time work experience.
• Ability to lift 20 lbs, stand for long periods, and walk campus for activities.
• Ability to attain sign language proficiency per FSDB requirements.
• Ability to complete CPR and CPI training.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students and monitor behavior; maintain safe dorm environment.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff following policies.
• Follow schedules, update reports, and document attendance and incidents.
• Promote student development and assist with social and daily living skills.
• Provide input on Functional Assessments and Individual Dorm Plans.
• Perform related duties and ensure a clean, safe environment.
