Job summary

The Oregon Department of Education is seeking Dormitory Counselors for the Oregon School for the Deaf, to provide overnight supervision and living skills guidance in a residential setting. This role emphasizes student wellbeing, safety, and structured activities.

Qualified candidates will have a HS diploma or GED, ASL skills at PI3 or higher, and related experience or an associate degree. Training in First Aid/CPR and MANDT will be provided annually.

Qualifications

  • Dormitory Counselor High School diploma or GED; AND Six (6) months experience working with children or adults in a group home, foster care setting, or skilled care center.
  • Dormitory Counselor SUB An Associates degree in a behavioral or social science field; OR Eighteen months experience in the skills listed below.
  • American Sign Language at the PI level 3 or better (Gallaudet) or Intermediate or better (WOU) within 6 months of hire.
  • School for the Deaf: Requires American Sign Language at the PI level 3.
  • First Aid/CPR Training will be provided annually prior to start of the school year; if unable to attend, candidate is responsible for certification training; MANDT Training.

Responsibilities

  • This is an overnight shift with hours from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, providing residential students with supervision and living skills instruction.
  • Plan and supervise large and small groups of students for activities such as instructional play, homework or other educational activity, organized leisure time and after school recreation.
  • Keep attendance and monitor the location, safety and wellbeing of each student under your care.
  • Supervise and/or participate in assisting with sports activities and other extracurricular activities.
