Job summary

St. Mary's School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Student Dorm Aide to supervise and assist residential students on Monday-Thursday, 1:30pm–11:30pm. The role supports dorm supervisors, escorts students to activities, and helps with personal hygiene and behavior management as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Ability to communicate with deaf persons using ASL and finger spelling; SLPI proficiency.
• Commitment to the TCI behavior management approach.
• Commitment to providing a safe and healthy residential environment for students.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students and ensure their safety at all times.
• Assist Dorm Supervisors with care, supervision, and building security.
• Escort students to meals, activities, field trips, and recreational events.
• Assist in behavior management as prescribed for each student and discuss changes with Supervisors.
• Assist students with personal hygiene and assist multiply handicapped students with toileting and daily activities.
• Oversee afternoon and early evening activities, homework, and dorm area cleanup.
• Intercede in emergency situations as required.
• Desire to work towards and secure a CDL license; a valid state driver’s license preferred.
• Attend staff and department meetings as required; participate in trainings.
• Must always remain alert and attentive.
• Performs other duties as requested or assigned
