Job summary

Ruan is hiring for a full-time, onsite dispatcher in Ankeny, IA. Work 7:00 PM–7:00 AM with a rotating schedule (Wednesday–Friday and every other Saturday). You’ll support the Extended Operations Center, coordinating drivers, customers, and incident responses to ensure timely service and data accuracy.

The role emphasizes real-time data handling, customer communication, and collaboration with the operations team. DOT knowledge and MS Office proficiency are important assets.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years' experience in transportation, dispatching or customer service.
• Excellent oral and written communication; strong problem solving.
• Willing to work 12-hour shifts, weekends and overtime; 4/3 or 3/4 schedule.
• Knowledge of DOT rules is a plus.
• Proficient with MS Office and ability to learn dispatch software.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepare and process real-time data including driver activities and hours of service.
• Respond to customer issues, update orders, and emails.
• Communicate with operations regularly about service issues impacting commitments.
• Maintain an updated computer log of incidences and manage admin tasks.
• Assist operations team members and drivers with training materials.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.

Job description

This is a full-time position working onsite in Ankeny, IA.

Schedule: Wednesday-Friday & Every other Saturday.

Hours: 7:00 PM-7:00 AM

Ruan presents a great opportunity within the new Extended Operations Center that is changing the way Ruan does their business. If you appreciate an alternating 3 or 4 day work week that provides lots of time off, then we have found your new home. Our team members will be trained to provide seamless support and business continuity to Ruan's operations team members and customers outside of traditional work hours and provide services that can be more efficiently completed by a centralized team in Des Moines.
Team members will provide central customer service and dispatch support for multiple operations throughout the Ruan network, including drivers, customers, maintenance and operations staff. Assign workload for available drivers, monitor product movements and resolve delivery and scheduling issues. Properly monitor, edit and update the Ruan transportation management systems to ensure all required operational data is accurately captured in a near real-time manner.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately prepare and process real time data including but not limited to maintaining driver activities in computer systems, driver hours of service, fuel inquiries and other required items. Responsible to update driver and dispatch information into dispatch system real time.
• Respond to customer issues, may include but not limited to looking up information, completing reports and updating orders, recording necessary information and responding to emails.
• Effectively communicate with operations on a regular and timely basis regarding issues impacting the customer and/or their service expectations and commitments.
• Record and maintain an updated computer log of incidences. Manage administrative and customer service responsibilities.
• Assist operations team members and drivers with training and resource material for standard operational processes and procedures as necessary.
• Perform other job related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience

Experience: 1-2 years' experience in Transportation, dispatching, customer service, or other related experience

• Requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to provide good customer service and problem solving abilities. Must be willing to work 12 hour shifts, weekends and be available to work overtime. Shift schedule: work 4 days off 3, work 3 days off 4. Must be dependable, reliable and able to work independently in a fast pace environment. Needs strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Employee should have some knowledge in DOT rules and regulations.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn to work on various software required.
