Job summary

JBG SMITH is seeking an Operating Engineer to join our Tenant Service Center in Arlington, VA. This role focuses on central control of mechanical operations across a large real estate portfolio, including starting and stopping equipment, managing setpoints, alarms, and faulted equipment, and coordinating scheduling.

The candidate will work in a 24/7/365 environment, bring strong HVAC knowledge, and have experience with building automation systems such as Siemens and Tridium.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least three years of engineering operations experience in large buildings.
• Licenses/certifications such as DC 3rd Class License are a plus.
• Military experience in mission control rooms or similar environments is a plus.
• Experience working in power plants, NOC, or large mechanical systems monitoring equipment.
• Experience as a controls engineer/technician for BAS/EMS systems.
• Ability to work in a 24/7/365 operations center.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical operations across the portfolio, including starting/stopping equipment and managing setpoints.
• Respond to alarms and faulted equipment; schedule equipment and coordinate maintenance.
• Troubleshoot HVAC issues and support building automation systems across commercial offices and multifamily properties.
