Job summary

WAYNE-WAY ENTERPRISE in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Building Engineer to maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and BAS systems across commercial facilities.

You will diagnose complex issues, respond to equipment failures, and perform preventive maintenance, with after-hours support as needed.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in similar roles and are proficient with boilers, chillers, pumps, and BAS, plus relevant licenses.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience maintaining commercial or institutional buildings.
• Strong hands-on experience with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience operating boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, and related equipment.
• Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
• Ability to diagnose equipment failures and perform repairs with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable responding to after-hours emergencies when required.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems.
• Monitor and maintain boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, VAVs, and related mechanical equipment.
• Utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor and optimize building performance.
• Troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues independently.
• Complete preventive maintenance while responding to service calls and equipment emergencies.
• Perform inspections to ensure building systems operate safely and efficiently.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and projects.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders using a CMMS.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.
