Job summary

MMI Industrial & Steel is seeking an Overhead Crane & Hoist Project Manager to lead crane, hoist, runway, and material handling projects from kickoff through completion. You will drive profitability, schedule adherence, quality execution, and client satisfaction while coordinating budgets, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

Ideal candidates will have 3–5+ years in overhead crane/hoist projects, strong leadership, and working knowledge of OSHA standards and industrial construction

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY

The Overhead Crane & Hoist Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing overhead crane, hoist, runway, and material handling equipment projects from kickoff through completion, ensuring profitability, schedule adherence, quality execution, and exceptional client satisfaction. This role requires a dependable, adaptable leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance detailed project management with a strategic focus on project success. The Project Manager actively oversees budgets, schedules, equipment procurement, subcontractors, installation crews, service coordination, and client communications while embodying our core values and contributing to a collaborative, solution-oriented team culture. Experience in overhead crane and hoist installation, modernization, inspection, maintenance, or service is highly valued. Success in this role is defined by consistently meeting project goals, fostering strong relationships, proactively solving challenges, and supporting the company's growth and purpose.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and manage all projects to the target gross profit margin with dependability and a focus on long-term success. Manage project schedules by driving deadlines, coordinating stakeholders, and proactively addressing delays with adaptability and composure under pressure. Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, problem-solving, and solution-oriented project leadership. Manage project budgets by tracking job costs, change orders, equipment purchases, subcontractor expenses, and forecasts; conduct regular financial reviews with leadership. Actively manage jobs to calculated budgets and collaborate cross-functionally to meet financial and operational goals. Prepare, review, and negotiate change orders, project scope revisions, and delay claims. Coordinate design reviews, engineering requirements, fabrication, procurement, installation, commissioning, and project closeout activities. Manage communications among customers, engineers, vendors, field service technicians, installation crews, subcontractors, and internal departments. Ensure compliance with contractual terms, OSHA requirements, applicable industry standards, and customer specifications. Coordinate site access, shutdown schedules, safety requirements, and installation sequencing to minimize operational disruptions. Identify long-lead equipment and procurement items early to reduce risk and maintain project schedules. Monitor project milestones and proactively resolve field, technical, scheduling, and logistical challenges. Create and submit accurate billing, progress reports, and supporting project documentation. Respond promptly to both internal and external customers through professional, clear communication. Document and communicate all aspects of project progress, risks, financial performance, and customer concerns. Support crane inspections, modernization projects, and service-related opportunities when applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

3–5+ years of experience managing construction, industrial, mechanical, structural steel, overhead crane, hoist, or material handling projects. Experience with overhead crane and hoist installation, service, modernization, maintenance, or inspection programs is strongly preferred. Proven dependability and motivation to take on challenges and drive growth. Strong understanding of industrial construction practices, rigging, lifting equipment, crane systems, and installation processes. Skilled in project planning, people management, risk management, and change management. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, equipment layouts, engineering documents, and technical specifications. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and change order management. Knowledge of construction contracts, service agreements, and subcontractor management. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Procore, Smartsheet, or similar project management platforms. Detail‑oriented mindset balanced by the ability to maintain a big-picture focus.

SKILLS

Strong project management abilities with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
