Responsibilities

  • Oversee month‑end and year‑end closing processes, including audit schedules and notes.
  • Keep the engagement partner informed on engagement progress and team status.
  • Research and apply complex accounting issues accurately.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analysis of variances.
  • Review reconciliations and month‑end closing entries.
  • Maintain deep understanding of each client's accounting operations.
  • Proficient with client's accounting software packages.
  • Recommend and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead the engagement team in audits as main contact with external auditors.
  • Manage preparation of Form 990 and year‑end 1099 preparation.
  • Design and implement policy controls and procedures.
  • Assist with budget preparation and grant reporting as needed.
  • Train, coach and mentor staff accountants.

Job description

Essential Functions And Primary Duties
  • Oversee the month‑end and year‑end closing process, including preparation of audit schedules, financial statements and notes to the financial statements.
  • Keep engagement partner informed and updated on engagement progress, engagement issues, and team status and needs.
  • Knowledgeable on complex accounting issues and treatment, proficient in accounting research.
  • Responsible for preparing monthly financial statements, including statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of functional expenses, and analysis on changes in financial position and budget variances.
  • Review reconciliations for significant balance sheet accounts and various other general ledger accounts, as needed; and review month‑end closing entries including payroll, fringe, indirect allocations, investment allocations, and grant allocations.
  • Maintain deep understanding of the accounting operations within each assigned client.
  • Proficient knowledge of the client's accounting software packages.
  • Responsible for recommending and enforcing the internal controls, policies, and procedures established by the client.
  • Lead the engagement team in preparation for client audits as the main contact with external auditors.
  • Manage the preparation of clients 990 and tax forms and year‑end preparation of their 1099s.
  • Recommend, design, and implement any necessary policy controls and procedures.
  • Other duties may include, but are not limited to: budget preparation, review, modification, grant reporting to private/federal funders, drafting of policies and procedures, review and payment of client payables in third‑party software, client billing, drafting of engagement letters.
  • Train, coach and mentor staff accountants.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Professional certifications relative to area of expertise; must have and preserve required licenses.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Proficient in applicable technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs.
