Job summary

Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc is seeking an Outside Sales Engineer to engage customers by phone and email, tailoring metal product solutions for a territory that spans from Maryland and Delaware up into Maine.

Ideal candidates will reside in the Buffalo, NY area, Devens MA area, or the Wilmington area. Responsibilities include interpreting prints and CAD files, understanding tolerances and processing options, and developing pricing templates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred.
• 1–3 years of sales experience in the metal industry.
• Print reading required; CAD or drafting experience a plus.
• SAP experience highly preferred; MS Office skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Working knowledge of geometry and strong math skills; technical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications.
• Understand tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options for a robust metal supply chain.
• Manage part-specific supply chains using internal and external processing assets to meet quality and delivery requirements.
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options and develop contract pricing templates for awarded work.
• Evaluate sales proposals for technical accuracy and alignment with quality standards.
• Conduct technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer-specific prices.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Join our team as an Outside Sales Engineer, where you'll engage with customers via phone and email, collaborating with internal and external partners to meet their needs. You'll conduct technical sales briefings and research customer specifications to tailor product solutions. This position will be supporting a territory that extends from Maryland and Delaware area up into Maine. Ideal candidates will reside in the Buffalo, NY area, Devens MA area, or the Wilmington, DL area.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications
• Full understanding of tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options that will guide a robust metal supply chain creation
• Manage part specific supply chains by utilizing internal and external processing assets to meet customer quality and delivery requirements
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options on a part-level basis and develop contract pricing templates based on awarded work
• Evaluating sales proposals to ensure they are technically accurate and consistent with the organization's quality standards
• Conducting technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer-specific prices
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
• 1-3 years of sales experience in the metal industry
• Print reading required. CAD or drafting experience a plus
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred
• MS Office software skills required, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in sales or customer service is an asset
• Working knowledge of geometry, strong math skills, and a technical aptitude

Salary: $68,437.28- $102,655.92 annually. A starting salary higher than $68,437.28 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
