Job summary

Ryerson in the United States is seeking an Outside Sales Engineer to engage customers by phone and email, working with internal and external partners to tailor metal solutions. You will interpret prints, CAD files, and specifications to propose pricing and delivery options throughout a territory spanning from Maryland and Delaware up to Maine.

Ideal candidates reside in the Buffalo, NY area, Devens MA area, or the Wilmington, DL area; 1–3 years of sales experience in the metal industry; SAP

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; engineering degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of sales experience in the metal industry.
• Print reading required; CAD or drafting experience a plus.
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred.
• MS Office skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Strong math skills and technical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications.
• Understand tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options for metal supply chain.
• Manage part-specific supply chains with internal/external assets to meet quality and delivery.
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options; develop pricing templates.
• Evaluate proposals for technical accuracy and quality standards.
• Conduct technical analysis of product configurations to determine prices.
• All other duties as assigned.

Join our team as an Outside Sales Engineer, where you'll engage with customers via phone and email, collaborating with internal and external partners to meet their needs. You'll conduct technical sales briefings and research customer specifications to tailor product solutions. This position will be supporting a territory that extends from Maryland and Delaware area up into Maine. Ideal candidates will reside in the Buffalo, NY area, Devens MA area, or the Wilmington, DL area.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer-provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications
• Full understanding of tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options that will guide a robust metal supply chain creation
• Manage part specific supply chains by utilizing internal and external processing assets to meet customer quality and delivery requirements
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options on a part-level basis and develop contract pricing templates based on awarded work
• Evaluating sales proposals to ensure they are technically accurate and consistent with the organization’s quality standards
• Conducting technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer-specific prices
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
• 1-3 years of sales experience in the metal industry
• Print reading required. CAD or drafting experience a plus
• Experience with SAP is highly preferred
• MS Office software skills required, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in sales or customer service is an asset
• Working knowledge of geometry, strong math skills, and a technical aptitude

Salary: $68,437.28- $102,655.92 annually. A starting salary higher than $68,437.28 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale.
