Job summary

Durham University invites applications for a fixed-term role within the Schools Outreach and Widening Participation (SOWP) Team, supporting Uni Connect across the North East. The post holder will lead projects, supervise a Higher Education Ambassador, and work with partner institutions to raise attainment and encourage higher education participation.

Based at Durham with regional travel, the role requires strong communication, event coordination and a commitment to widening participation.

Qualifications

• Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four including English Language and Mathematics.
• Degree or equivalent qualification and direct experience of the UK school and HE system.
• Experience of working with young people and enthusing them about higher education.
• Experience of working on complex logistical activities and events with young people, preferably in a higher education setting.
• Experience of providing advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the North East Uni Connect programme activities with schools and sixth forms across the region.
• Manage relationships with senior staff within targeted schools to plan, develop, deliver and monitor outreach activity.
• Coordinate and deliver a structured programme of in-person and virtual outreach and tutoring to support progression to higher education.
• Supervise the Higher Education Ambassador and provide HR-related support as needed.
• Travel between partner institutions and attend regional meetings to support programme delivery.
