Outreach Specialist
Job Description
The Outreach Specialist reports directly to the Outreach Coordinator at the site and provides outreach services to assist veterans experiencing homelessness and at-risk veterans by connecting them to housing and comprehensive support services that will lead to them reaching their highest level of independence.

Responsibilities
- Publicizes services for homeless veterans by visiting local facilities such as shelters, treatment programs, transitional housing, sober living programs, soup kitchens and other locations where people experiencing homelessness may congregate
- Maintains an database of client information and referrals to the programs to track veterans referred the program and for screening appointments
- Schedules screenings and transportation to the local U.S.VETS site as required on behalf of veterans leaving treatment or other facilities that contact U.S.VETS with potential client referrals
- Assists with client transportation for program events
- Collaborates and coordinates with external service provider staff to ensure all required paperwork for each client file is collected in a timely manner
- Produces a weekly report of veterans encountered by the outreach team
- Assists with communication of upcoming projects and special events sponsored by the outreach team
- Attends the weekly outreach meeting of all U.S.VETS’ site outreach staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- One year of experience in social services
- Employment at U.S.VETS for at least three months may substitute for one year of experience
- Strong oral, written, and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work within a team
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course
Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field
- Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or the veteran population
