Job summary

AdventHealth in Altamonte Springs, FL seeks a skilled Medical Coder with physician-based coding experience to join our team. You will review and code charges for office and hospital services, ensuring accuracy with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS modifiers, and enter data into EMR systems.

Collaboration with coding staff and leadership is essential to resolve discrepancies. The role demands 2+ years of physician-based coding experience, CPC/CCS credentials or equivalent, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Substantial knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers for outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures.
• Current knowledge of E&M and surgical coding.
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Edit and review captured charges and medical documentation to determine appropriate codes and modifiers.
• Review outpatient and inpatient procedure reports, abstract procedures, and enter charges into EMR.
• Communicate documentation discrepancies with coding support staff and coding supervisor.
• Create patient charts and enter demographics and insurance information into EMR when applicable.
• Verify data entry of patient demographics, insurance, and hospital charges for accuracy.
• Enter and attach insurance and authorizations to patient encounters in EMR.
• Assist coding supervisor with escalated coding questions from team members and physician practices.
• Maintain open communication with coding team and supervisor.

Job Description:

• Edits and reviews captured charges and medical documentation to determine appropriate codes and modifiers for services rendered in office and hospital settings.
• Reviews outpatient and inpatient procedure reports, abstracts appropriate procedure codes, and enters charges into electronic medical records.
• Communicates documentation discrepancies with coding support staff and coding supervisor.
• Creates patient charts and enters demographics and insurance information into electronic medical records when applicable.

• Urology surgical experience is preferred!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Substantial knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers for outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures. [Required]
• Substantial knowledge of NCCI, MU, MUE edits and bundling guidelines. [Required]
• Knowledgeable with Microsoft software. [Required]
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. [Required]
• Ability to effectively operate equipment such as PC, web/tele-conference. [Required]
• Current knowledge of E&M and surgical coding. [Preferred]
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. [Preferred]
• Ability to explain required documentation needs to physicians and staff via EMR system. [Preferred]

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Work Experience:

• 2+ years of experience in physician based coding for both e&m (outpatient/inpatient) and surgical procedures [Required]

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) [Required] OR
• Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A) [Required] OR
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)[Required]OR
