RHIT eligibility or CPC/CPC-A/CCS/CCP/CCA certification is required; some college in healthcare or medical records is preferred. Six months coding experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Some college or coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.
• Six (6) months coding experience preferred, but not required.
• RHIT, RHIT certification eligibility, or CPC/CPC-A/CCS/CCP/CCA certification required.

Responsibilities

• Code diagnostic and procedural information from patient medical records for reimbursement and data accuracy.
• Abstract information for a patient database to support medical research, patient care evaluation, and administrative decisions.
• Ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, regulations and accreditation guidelines.
