Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a medical coder to review and code diagnostic and procedural information from patient records for reimbursement and data quality. You will abstract data for research, patient care evaluation, and administrative decisions, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and payer policies.

The role requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and coding systems, with RHIT or CPC certification (or eligibility) preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes and medical terminology.
• Certification as RHIT, RHIT eligibility, or CPC/CPC-A/CCS/CCP/CCA is required.
• Six months of coding experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Identifies diagnostic and operative procedures for coding by reviewing the patient’s medical record.
• Analyzes provider documentation to assign or verify appropriate E/M CPT codes.
• Verifies and requests documentation to support compliance.
• Assigns diagnostic and procedural codes using encoder software and established guidelines.
• Reviews charges and assigns appropriate facility E/M level.
• Reviews and corrects coding errors, edits, rejections and disputes.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable laws and organizational policies.
• Performs other related duties as required.
