Job summary

Cayuga Health System is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I (Outpatient Phlebotomist) to support outpatient laboratory operations with accurate venipuncture, labeling, and Epic registration. The role emphasizes safe, compliant specimen handling and timely workflow.

Responsibilities include batching specimens, inventory communication, adherence to HIPAA, safety guidelines, and ongoing quality assurance. Per diem shifts are available at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational phlebotomy course or 2 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs proper venipuncture and labels specimens with two forms of ID with zero errors.
• Accurate patient registration, requisitioning, and Epic proficiency.
• Labeling, processing and prep of specimens for testing.
• Complete specimen batches for courier or tube system delivery.
• Maintain documentation and comply with policies, HIPAA, infection control and safety guidelines.
