Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Irvine, CA seeks a Medical Assistant for outpatient clinic support. You will provide clerical and clinical help, assist with patient exams, tests, and medication administration under supervision, and help maintain records and scheduling.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or MA training, BLS certification within 30 days of hire, and pass background checks as required. Experience as a MA is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR the Med Ed Program OR one year of clinical experience.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• State and Federal background checks as required for regulated areas.
• Registration or certification as a medical assistant is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to assure patients’ needs are met.
• Assist providers with requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
• Administer prescribed medication under supervision of attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
• Obtain and document patients’ specimens as ordered.
• Document and report test results to the medical provider.
• May perform POCT tests after training and maintain quality control logs.
• Schedule and coordinate new and return appointments and procedures.
• Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program

Graduate of the Med Ed Program

One year of clinical experience

Basic Life Support certification (BLS)

Registration or Certification as a medical assistant
