Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical support in an outpatient setting. You will assist providers, perform tests, administer medications under supervision, and help manage patient records and scheduling.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Medical Assistant program or one year of clinical experience, with BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR Med Ed Program OR one year of clinical experience.
• Obtain Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State and Federal background checks as required for regulated areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to assure patients’ needs are met and efficient outpatient unit operations.
• Assist providers with requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing; ensure test results are available.
• Administer prescribed medication under supervision of attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
• Obtain and document patients’ specimens as ordered.
• Document and report test results to medical provider.
• After training, perform assigned and/or all ordered POCT tests and maintain quality control testing and logs.
• Schedule additional testing and assist with requisitions or forms for patient examination.
• Act as chaperone during medical examinations.
• Ensure medical records and test results are available for visits.
• Monitor nurse call system and relay information to staff.
• Provide information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
• Participate in Quality Assurance Program to assure quality patient services.
• Generate required patient charge data according to outpatient procedures.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for patient care needs; assist with schedule and coordination of appointments.
