Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown is seeking an outpatient Medical Assistant to support medical staff and patients in a busy clinic setting. You will assist with examinations, testing, specimen collection, medication administration under supervision, and documentation to ensure efficient patient flow.

The role requires a high school diploma or MA program graduate or equivalent experience, plus BLS within 30 days. Collaborative care and accurate records are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program, Med Ed, or 1 year clinical experience.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Background checks as required for regulated areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to ensure patient needs are met and outpatient unit runs smoothly.
• Assist providers with requisitions or forms for examinations or testing and ensure test results are available.
• Administer prescribed medication under supervision of attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
• Obtain and document patients' specimens as ordered.
• Document and report test results to the medical provider.
• May perform assigned POCT tests and maintain quality control testing and logs.
• Schedule additional ancillary testing as needed and assist with patient visits.
• Act as chaperone during medical examinations.
• Ensure medical records and test results are available for visit and accessible from referring physicians.
• Monitor nurse call system and relay information to staff.
• Assist patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
• Participate in Quality Assurance to assure quality patient services.
• Generate required patient charge data according to WVU Medicine outpatient procedures.
• Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; operate printers, embossers, and computers.
• May schedule and coordinate new and return appointments using the computerized system.
• May assure patient registration and collect demographic and billing information.
• Assist with deposit of money and unit correspondence as needed.
• May process and mail letters to patients.
