Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to review medical data and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes, abstract data, and support billing processes. You will ensure accurate coding for diagnoses and procedures and maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines.

Applicants should have 1 year of coding experience and a foundation in anatomy and medical terminology; RHIT/RHIA or CPC/CPC-A credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• 1 year of Hospital and/or Physician Coding
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms
• Medical Terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A certifications or apprenticeships

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10 CM/CPT codes
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters data into designated system
• Manages medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports
• Keeps informed of ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline updates and implements changes
• Performs other duties as assigned
