Job summary

The County of Ventura is seeking a Certified Coder to review clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS codes for outpatient services across multiple departments. You will ensure accurate billing, compliance with CMS guidelines, and support clinical documentation improvement.

The ideal candidate has AHIMA/AAPC credentials, strong knowledge of PPS/DRG/APC, and excellent analytical skills; you will collaborate with physicians and staff, participate in education, and contribute to

Qualifications

• Two years of recent acute care coding experience using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS.
• Experience with PPS, DRG and APC methodologies for outpatient coding.
• Ability to query physicians for clarification on diagnoses/procedures.

Responsibilities

• Codes and abstracts discharged outpatient records using ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS.
• Review provider documentation for accuracy and Medicare/Medicaid compliance.
• Query physicians for clarification to ensure correct codes.
• Provide ongoing coding education to clinical staff and CDI team.
• Input coded data into the hospital information system per guidelines.
• Identify coding trends and assist in resolving denials and audits.
• Support payer-specific requirements and contribute to appropriate reimbursement.
