Lake Region Healthcare Corporation is seeking an Outpatient Coder to join the Health Information Management Department in Fergus Falls, MN. The role focuses on accurate outpatient coding using CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS to support billing and compliance.

The position offers 80 hours biweekly, day shifts, with options for remote or on-site work in Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota. Compensation ranges hourly from $22.38 to $31.80 depending on experience and internal equity.

Qualifications

• Education/skills: Associates, vocational, or Bachelor's in HIM preferred.
• RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, or AHIMA/AAPC cert preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient coding (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
• Ophthalmology coding experience preferred.
• Proficient verbal and written communication.
• One+ year of medical coding experience required.
• Proficient computer/keyboard skills.
• Must pass pre-employment health screening.
• Must be able to attend on-site per schedule.

Responsibilities

• Audit CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for accuracy per third party requirements.
• Communicate with medical staff to obtain information for accurate coding.
• Interpret medical records to extract information for coding.
• Maintain knowledge of CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS and updates.

Remote work is available for candidates in Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota, only.

The Outpatient Coder exhibits professional and proficient communication, with patients, co-workers, medical staff and administrative staff. Meet or exceed the expected accuracy rate of 95% and demonstrate efficient skills when coding outpatient charges for billing. Be knowledgeable of outpatient coding guidelines, ICD-10 diagnosis application and resources available within and outside the clinic to obtain optimum accuracy for account billing while sustaining coding charts per hour rate expectations based on outpatient specialty areas. Other coding tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Audit charge tickets for accurate and required CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes, according to third party requirements.


2. Communicate with medical staff to acquire necessary information for accurate coding.


3. Interpret medical record documentation to obtain necessary information for accurate coding.


4. Maintain knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes, computer system, procedure changes and updates and other educational material pertinent to this position.


5. Perform miscellaneous office duties as time permits and/or other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or director.

Qualifications

1. Education/Special Skills: Associates, Vocational Degree, or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management preferred.


2. RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P and/or certification or other related coding certificate through AHIMA/AAPC preferred.


3. Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient coding, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.


4. Ophthalmology coding experience preferred


5. Proficient and professional communication, both verbal and written.


6. Basic math and accounting skills.


7. One or more years of related experience of medical coding required.


8. Proficient computer/keyboarding skills required.


9. Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process required.
