Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Billing Coordinator / Coder to manage day-to-day outpatient billing and coding across the network. The role requires ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding knowledge, plus strong communication with patients and physicians.

The position supports centralized billing operations and requires accuracy in data abstraction, coding, and documentation management within the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year of coding for professional services.
• Strong understanding of physiology, medical terms and anatomy.
• Proficiency in computer skills including typing speed and accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• Must meet coding quality and productivity as established by Compliance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates information of a patient's medical record for submission to the physician billing service.
• Verifies patient’s insurance and acts as liaison with patients regarding charges and inquiries.
• Ensures proper receipt of authorization/referral and completion of forms.
• Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
• Monitors coding and billing corrections for accuracy.
• Assigns CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10-CM codes.
• Communicates with physicians for additional documentation when needed.
