Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Fairburn, GA is hiring a Helper to support drivers in collecting residential waste and recyclables in a physically demanding outdoor role.

You will load materials, sort recyclables into compartments, and help with safety while assisting the driver with backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces. Prior labor experience is a plus, and a valid driver’s license is beneficial.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
• 1–3 months of related physical labor is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person!
• A valid driver’s license is a plus.
• Reliability: Must be able to meet safety-sensitive function criteria according to Company standards.

Responsibilities

• Safely assist drivers in the collection of residential solid waste and recyclables, ensuring our Fairburn neighborhoods stay clean.
• Loading & Sorting: Efficiently load materials into the vehicle and sort recyclables into appropriate compartments.
• Safety Navigation: Act as the “second set of eyes” for the driver, assisting with backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces.
• Equipment Operation: Operate hydraulic compacting equipment and ensure the truck is stocked with necessary tools (brooms, shovels, etc.) before leaving the yard.
• Customer Service: Maintain a professional demeanor and identify/tag prohibited waste items to keep our community and equipment safe.
• Teamwork: Work closely with supervisors to improve routing and ensure every route meets GFL’s high-quality standards.
