Job summary

City of Gardena seeks a Park Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled and labor tasks in city parks, grounds and facilities, including mowing, edging turf, trimming shrubs, cleaning grounds and restrooms, and assisting with playgrounds, irrigation, and ball diamonds. You will operate light to medium equipment, follow written and oral directions, and interact with the public.

A high school diploma or GED and a valid California Driver’s License are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent G.E.D. and one (1) year of experience in general maintenance work with a favorable and verifiable work history.
• Must have and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn maintenance and grounds keeping duties and routines; to follow written and oral directions; to work well with other employees as well as the public; to be reliable and to maintain good work habits.

Responsibilities

• Mows and edges turf areas, trims shrubbery and trees, cleans park grounds, toilets and patios.
• Assists skilled workers in the installation and maintenance of playground equipment, sports equipment, drinking fountains, bleachers, picnic tables, fences and irrigation systems.
• Assists with weed abatement program, which may include herbicide spraying.
• Operates trucks, tractors, gang mowers, and other light to medium duty equipment as required.
• Does layout and burning in of official youth sport playing fields; prepares ball diamonds for games.
• Uses small gas powered grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools.
• Does other related duties as required.
