Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks two Journey-Level Highway Maintenance Workers for Port Angeles and Port Townsend, WA. These non-permanent roles involve outdoor, hands-on work maintaining highways, structures, signs, drainage, and right-of-way as part of a crew.

The work includes operating Class A/B/C equipment, performing repairs, and supporting safety through traffic control and PASP compliance. Shift rotation and nights are expected.

Qualifications

• Journey-Level Highway & Roadway Maintenance experience and ability to repair highway structures and right-of-way.
• Operation and maintenance of Class A, B, C highway equipment and vehicles.
• Knowledge of MUTCD traffic control practices and safe work-zone planning.
• Strong safety awareness and compliance with PASP and training.
• Proficiency with timekeeping, maintenance tracking, inventory, and cost estimating systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment and vehicles to perform repairs and upkeep.
• Repair asphalt, concrete, drainage, signs, guardrails, and roadside infrastructure.
• Perform vegetation management, erosion control, debris removal, and litter cleanup.
• Operate snow/ice control and haul materials to keep roadways open.
• Set up traffic control, flagging, and lane closures; lead crew when needed.
