Job summary

City of South Bend is seeking a part-time Maintenance Worker to support the Traffic & Lighting Workgroup. You will assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, street lighting, and related infrastructure, and operate city vehicles as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to perform strenuous outdoor labor in all weather while following safety protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Valid state driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, signal equipment, streetlights, and related infrastructure.
• Perform routine upkeep of Traffic & Lighting facilities, buildings, and grounds.
• Operate pickup trucks and light-duty vehicles in daily duties.
• Load, unload, move, and transport materials, tools, and equipment.
• Use hand tools and power tools, including mowers and weed trimmers, as required.
• Maintain work zones following safety practices and traffic control procedures.
• Conduct routine inspections and report equipment deficiencies or hazards.
