JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Worker I – Streets performs entry-level manual labor and routine maintenance activities to support the repair and upkeep of City streets, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. This position assists skilled maintenance personnel with roadway repairs, debris removal, traffic control, and storm response activities. Work is performed under the direction of a Crew Leader and requires adherence to established safety procedures and work standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Street & Drainage Maintenance

• Performs general labor duties in support of street and roadway maintenance operations.


• Assists with clearing fallen trees, limbs, and debris from roadways, medians, and rights
  of-way.


• Assists with clearing creeks and drainage areas to ensure proper water flow.


• Supports repair of utility cuts, pavement failures, and other roadway surface issues.

Equipment & Vehicle Operation

• Operates light equipment and tools in support of maintenance activities.


• Drives and operates a dump truck and other assigned vehicles as required.


• Performs routine pre-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and reports maintenance concerns. Assists skilled maintenance workers in operating heavy equipment.

Traffic Control & Safety

• Assists with setting up and maintaining work zone traffic control for daily operations and
  special events.


• Follows established safety practices and secures work sites to minimize hazards.

Emergency & On-Call Support

• Participates in the on-call rotation and responds to storm events, emergency roadway issues, and severe weather situations as assigned.


• Performs additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the job functions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a High School Diploma.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of general street and roadway maintenance practices.


• Basic knowledge of work zone safety and traffic control procedures.


• Knowledge of safe operation of hand tools and light equipment.


• Skilled in the safe use of hand tools and small power equipment.


• Skilled in operating light and medium‑duty vehicles, including dump trucks.


• Basic ability to complete simple work documentation and follow instructions.


• Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.


• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work under supervision.


• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships as part of a team.


• Ability to observe safe work practices and secure job sites appropriately.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• The candidate must have a valid, US, driver’s license.


• Class “B” CDL Driver’s license preferred; must be acquired within one year of
  employment
