Job summary

Astound is seeking an Outside Plant Technician I for hands-on, field-based work maintaining and repairing aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure. You will operate bucket trucks and ladders to restore service, perform preventative maintenance, and support network reliability.

Your role includes detecting outages, emergency restorations, and documenting work orders. The position requires a high school diploma, 2+ years telecom field experience, and the ability to work on 24/7 on-call

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years telecom field work or utilities experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and map-reading ability.
• Aptitude to learn new skills and solve problems.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Read and interpret maps; understand Outside Plant concepts.
• Bucket trucks and Ohm’s tested credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and underground facilities.
• Perform emergency restoration of coax and underground cables.
• Install, repair, and maintain coaxial and fiber cabling outdoors.
• Operate bucket trucks, ladders and field equipment safely.
• Document work orders and daily logs accurately.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and on-call support.
• Monitor power supply, actives, and cable leakage as required.
• Support fiber splicing activities where needed.
