Job summary

Southeastern Freight Lines in Waynesboro, VA is seeking a part-time PT Outbound Freight Handler. You will load and unload freight, prepare trailers, and use forklifts and hand trucks to move cargo.

You will weigh and dimension shipments, check freight bills and manifests, verify hazardous material paperwork, and block and brace freight to prevent shifting. A high school diploma or GED and ability to pass background and drug tests are required; forklift certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Background check and alcohol/drug test clearance required.
• Prior experience as Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler preferred.
• Forklift Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off equipment.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading.
• Use safe lifting techniques and appropriate handling equipment.
• Weigh and dimension shipments for proper freight rating and handling.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution during loading.
• Inspect freight and document shortages or damages.
• Review freight bills and manifests for instructions and exceptions.
• Verify hazardous material descriptions and paperwork; ensure proper placarding.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
