JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Practice - Assist with the application and removal of basic casts, splints, and braces for orthopedic patients. Support orthopedic providers and clinical staff by helping with routine patient care tasks, including preparing patients for their visit and helping maintain an efficient clinic flow. Perform patient intake duties, such as obtaining vital signs, confirming patient information, documenting medical histories, and preparing exam rooms. Provide general assistance to Ambulatory Services, the Orthopedic Division, and other hospital departments that need basic orthopedic support. Help ensure a positive patient and family experience by communicating clearly, offering basic instructions on cast or splint care, and responding to questions within the scope of the role

Interdepartmental Duties - Offer excellent care to orthopedic patients during emergency room visits, during specified times. Able to assist with casting in OR setting. Be aware of sterile precautions during and after orthopedic surgical cases. Be available if time permits to assist Orthopedic staff with in-house patients. Able to be functional in ED and always practicing with a physician

Inventory Management - Display the ability to maintain casting area, check stock and coordinate discrepancies with the Ortho Tech Supervisor. Consistently and accurately capture charges of inventory dispersed through the pyxsis system. Assist with cleaning of patient stations after use, and be aware of potential safety hazards. Remain current in and consistently practice CCHMC blood and body fluid precautions. Performs scheduled, routine safety checks on identified equipment and logs action. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner when issues are identified that require their attention

Compliance - Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, such as JCAHO, HIPAA, and/or other accreditation standards

Customer Service - Utilize basic approaches to problem solving and conflict resolution. Participate in identifying improvements in response to customer needs. Facilitates involvement of patients/families (shared care) in decisions and goal setting for care outcomes

Orthopedic Technologist I Provides advanced technical support to orthopedic physicians and surgeons in the treatment of bone and joint injuries across inpatient, emergency, ambulatory, and surgical settings. Delivers high‑quality patient care, ensures efficient clinical workflows, and serves as a skilled resource for staff, patients, and families. Key Responsibilities Assist orthopedic providers with advanced procedures, applying established clinical methods with accuracy, efficiency, and sound judgment. Apply and remove casts, splints, and orthopedic bracing; ensure proper fit, patient comfort, and adherence to clinical standards. Support orthopedic care for infants, children, and adolescents across Inpatient, Emergency, Surgical, and Ambulatory Services. Optimize patient flow, enhance staff efficiency, and contribute to best‑practice development for orthopedic care and patient experience. Provide expert instruction and supervision to Pediatric and Orthopedic house staff on safe and effective application of orthopedic appliances. Deliver high‑quality care during emergency visits and designated clinical coverage times, demonstrating advanced clinical judgment and independence. Maintain strict sterile technique during and after orthopedic surgical procedures. Assist the Orthopedic team with in‑house patients and collaborate to improve departmental workflows and outcomes. Manage casting‑area operations, including inventory control, charge capture (Pyxis), equipment safety checks, and maintaining clean, hazard‑free patient stations. Adhere to blood and body fluid precautions and all institutional safety protocols. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (JCAHO, HIPAA, etc.). Apply advanced problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills; identify improvement opportunities and collaborate with leadership to refine processes. Support patient‑and family‑centered care through shared decision‑making, education, and clear communication

Primary Hours

Monday – Friday: 8am-4:30pm

Weekend ED hours: Monday – Friday 4pm-8pm, Sat/Sun 12pm-8pm

Seasonal Evenings: April-October Monday & Thursday 5pm-9pm

Seasonal Saturdays: April-November 8am-12:30pm

Rotating: Burnett Campus, Winslow Campus, Crestview Hills, Eastgate, Mason, Liberty Campus, Fairfield, Green Township (attempt to accommodate home location when possible) *** Mid-day travel may be required/Mileage may be compensated
