Job summary

University Hospitals is seeking an Orthopedic Technician for the Orthopedic Clinic. The role involves performing Ortho Tech/DME duties in both ambulatory and operating room settings, including casts, splints, and traction, with training in Beachwood and work in Berea starting Oct.

The technician will support physicians, educate patients and families, handle dressing changes, wound care, and ensure PHI security in a busy orthopedic department.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years as Ortho Tech or similar patient-care role in clinical/hospital setting required.
• Experience with casting/splinting, DME application, staple/suture removal, dressing changes, wound care, pin care, and traction preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy related to orthopedics; PHI compliance familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Applies/removes casts and splints per physician orders.
• Measures fit and applies durable medical equipment per instructions.
• Educates patients and families on usage and precautions of orthopedic devices.
• Supports physicians in outpatient clinics and operating room settings.
• Provides age-appropriate care from neonates to elderly.
• Manages dressing changes, wound care, staple/suture removal, and traction as needed.
• Collaborates with team and mentors less experienced peers.
