Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks an Orthopedic Health Technician (OHT) to support Orthopedic Outpatient Clinics within Sacramento VAMC. The role involves direct patient care for casts, braces, splints, and traction across outpatient, ED, OR and inpatient settings.

The position requires specialized experience at GS-7 level, OSHA safety knowledge, and proficiency with CPRS EMR. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM; telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6, performing orthopedic technician duties such as applying casts, setting up sterile fields, and coordinating with imaging.
• Attention to time-in-grade requirements for current federal employees.
• A full year of work is considered 35–40 hours per week; basic computer and safety competencies are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide staffing support for Podiatry clinic as workload permits.
• Operate and maintain equipment used for casting and bracing applications.
• Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA safety standards and universal precautions.
• Maintain/clean reusable medical equipment per manufacturer instructions.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of casting/bracing materials and tools.
