Job summary

CHS Career Site is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide patient-centered care through the nursing process in a Birmingham, AL setting. You will coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

The role includes conducting assessments, administering medications, and education for patients and families. Orthopedics specialization elements are included, with emphasis on pre/post-operative care and infection control.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of clinical nursing experience or student rotations in an acute care setting.
• RN licensure in good standing; compact licensure acceptable.
• BCLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver patient-centered care in accordance with the nursing process.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and document findings; report changes to care team.
• Provide age-appropriate care using knowledge of human development.
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor for side effects.
• Assist physicians during procedures within competency and scope.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and evaluate care plans.
• Respond to medical emergencies and participate in CPR/code team activities.
• Advocate for patient rights and preferences in care planning.
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
• Monitor and operate medical equipment as needed for patient safety.
• Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks.
• Demonstrate responsible decision-making in planning and delegation.
• Document patient care and education thoroughly in the record.
• Engage in professional development to maintain competencies.
• Participate in performance improvement and data collection initiatives.
• Orthopedics RN: provide pre/post-operative care, peripheral/vascular assessments, immobilization device management, pain control, patient education.
