Job summary

Kernodle Clinic in Burlington, NC, seeks a patient-focused Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support the Orthopedics perioperative team. You will manage preoperative evaluation, intraoperative first-assist duties, and postoperative care across the perioperative continuum.

The RNFA will mentor residents, provide leadership to the perioperative team, and ensure safe, high-quality care while maintaining documentation and HIPAA compliance. Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• BSN required and RN license required.
• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Completion of an accredited RNFA program with core curriculum.
• Strong perioperative nursing knowledge and surgical first-assist practices.
• Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with surgeons, residents, APPs and perioperative staff.
• BLS certification required by AHA.

Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care from preop to postoperative recovery and discharge planning.
• Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare providers for preoperative patient management.
• Perform preoperative evaluations and communicate plans of care.
• Prepare and write preoperative orders per protocol.
• Serve as the surgical first assistant during procedures.
• Assist with surgeries using instruments and devices, maintaining hemostasis.
• Provide second-assist coverage when needed and support residents.
• Educate and mentor surgical residents and perioperative staff.
• Provide postoperative patient management and discharge planning in collaboration with the team.
• Document in the electronic medical record and maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
