Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) to support perioperative care across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. The CRNFA will assist surgeons, provide patient management, and help with education of surgical residents.

Shift: 6am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with call, weekends, and rotating holidays depending on unit needs.

Qualifications

• BSN required; MSN preferred.
• Current RN licensure in North Carolina; BLS required.
• CNOR certification is required or must be obtained.
• RNFA or CSFA certification required within two years of employment, CSFA accepted if hired before 2/1/26.

Responsibilities

• Provide preoperative patient management in collaboration with other health care providers.
• Perform intraoperative surgical first assisting using instruments and providing exposure.
• Provide postoperative management including orders and rounds per established protocols.
• Assist with discharge planning and perioperative patient care leadership.
• Maintain compliance with AORN education standards for RNFA certification.
