Job summary

OrthoArizona is seeking a Specialty Referral Specialist in Chandler, AZ to coordinate patient referrals to specialty providers and ensure timely scheduling. You will facilitate communication between patients, internal providers, and external specialists, and manage documentation and authorizations to support continuity of care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant healthcare coursework preferred.
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a medical office or referral coordination role in a high-volume setting.
• Knowledge of insurance authorization processes and referral requirements.
• Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Promptly contact patients after referral review and route calls appropriately.
• Coordinate with external specialty offices to schedule appointments.
• Collect and verify patient demographics and insurance details for accurate scheduling.
• Schedule appointments based on referral urgency and provider availability.
• Obtain necessary authorizations or pre-referrals before visits.
• Document all referral and scheduling activities in the EMR with proper terminology.
• Maintain complete documentation in the patient chart and track referral progress.
• Collaborate with clinicians, external providers, and staff to ensure seamless care transitions.
• Meet individual and team productivity and referral completion metrics.
• Stay current on updates to referral protocols and SOPs.
