Job summary

Center for Advanced Orthopedics in Lenexa is seeking an experienced Operating Room Scrub Technician (PRN) to support orthopedic surgeries under the supervision of the RN and surgeon. You will prepare and maintain a sterile field, pass instruments, and assist with turnover between cases in a state-of-the-art ambulatory center.

The role requires 1–2 years of scrub experience in orthopedic cases, familiarity with orthopedic power tools and implants, and a Surgical Technology credential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years scrub experience; orthopedic case experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with orthopedic power tools, implant trays, and arthroscopy equipment preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Set up sterile field, instrumentation, and equipment specific to orthopedic procedures (total joints, arthroscopy, trauma, spine, foot/ankle).
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and first assistant efficiently and accurately.
• Maintain sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Prepare and manage specialty orthopedic trays, power equipment, and implant systems.
• Assist with patient positioning and prepping.
• Participate in surgical counts (instruments, sponges, sharps) with the circulating RN.
• Properly handle, package, and route instruments for reprocessing post-case.
• Maintain working knowledge of implant systems used by facility surgeons (e.g., total knee/hip systems, trauma sets, arthroscopy towers).
• Perform OR turnover between cases, including cleaning and resetting the surgical suite, to support efficient OR throughput.
• Adhere to all infection prevention, sterile processing, and safety standards.
