Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking an Orthopedic Technician Specialist to support the Orthopedic Surgeon with patient care and basic medical assistant duties in a busy clinic. The role includes wound care, casting, scheduling of procedures, patient flow management in clinic and x-ray areas, and front desk tasks as needed.

The position requires NBCOT or ASOP registration; Medical Assistant Certification is acceptable until Orthopedic Technologist certification is obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• One year or more in orthopedic clinical settings preferred.
• Ability to follow surgeon instructions and document patient data.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and wound care.
• Able to triage patient calls and manage urgent cases per protocol.

Responsibilities

• Removes sutures and staples; changes dressings and applies casts/braces.
• Schedules surgical and diagnostic procedures; provides pre-op instructions and follow-up.
• Prepares injections and assists with injections.
• Coordinates test results and documentation for clinic prep.
• Answers patient inquiries and directs messages to surgeon.
• Manages medications ordered by physician and records vitals.
• Assists surgeon with patient care during clinic, including patient flow and X-ray room.
