Job summary

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine in Portland, ME seeks an Orthopaedic Technologist to support physicians with casting, splinting, DME fitting, and patient education in a fast-paced clinic.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, completion of an orthopaedic technologist program, OTC certification preferred, BLS current, and strong organization and communication skills to ensure smooth patient flow and quality care.

Qualifications

  • Orthopaedic Technologist program or relevant clinical training preferred.
  • OTC certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification within a set timeframe.
  • Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient intake: rooming, vital signs, medical history.
  • Triage and assess patients; coordinate care with physicians and APPs.
  • Provide patient education on injury prevention, rehab, and pre/post-op care.
  • Apply casts, splints, braces, and DME to support recovery.
  • Train patients on device use and gait techniques.
  • Assist with in-office procedures and maintain patient flow.

You’ll get hands-on experience in patient care, casting, splinting, DME fitting, and injury prevention education—all while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.What You’ll DoAssist in patient intake—rooming, vital signs, and obtaining medical historyTriage and assess patients, prioritizing urgent cases and coordinating care with physicians & APPsProvide patient education on injury prevention, rehabilitation, pre/post-op care, and wellnessApply casts, splints, braces, and DME to support recoveryTrain patients on proper device use and gait techniquesAssist with in-office procedures and ensure efficient patient flowDocument patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and clinic staffMaintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of patient care and safetyWhat You Bring to the TableHigh school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an Orthopaedic Technologist program or relevant clinical training preferredOrthopaedic Technologist Certification (OTC) preferred or willingness to obtain certification within an established timeframeCurrent BLS certification (required)Experience assisting with casting, splinting, brace fitting, durable medical equipment (DME), and orthopedic patient care preferredStrong organizational, communication, and customer service skillsAbility to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced orthopedic clinic environmentProficiency with EMR systems and basic computer applicationsAbility to work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, athletic trainers, and clinical staff while providing exceptional patient care
