Job summary

Orthopaedic Associates of Maine – Ambulatory Surgery Center in Portland, ME is seeking a PRN Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support our surgical team. You will prepare and set up for procedures, assist at the sterile field, and help maintain a safe, efficient environment for patients undergoing orthopedic surgery in our ASC.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED, graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program, and current CST certification (NBSTSA) with BLS.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Current CST certification (NBSTSA) and BLS certification required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or outpatient OR setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and organized.
  • Ability to work independently while excelling as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set up for scheduled procedures with instrumentation and implants.
  • Assist surgeons at the sterile field, anticipating needs and ensuring seamless workflows.
  • Support circulator staff and help maintain a safe, patient-focused environment.
  • Follow strict aseptic technique and uphold surgical standards per AORN guidelines.
  • Participate in time-out procedures and intraoperative safety checks.
  • Position patients, apply tourniquets, and handle surgical specimens appropriately.
  • Assist in patient transport and maintain readiness for upcoming cases.
