Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit. The role provides direct age-appropriate care under the supervision of RNs and licensed practitioners, supporting activities of daily living, and ensuring safety and comfort for patients with knee/hip replacements, spinal surgeries, and trauma injuries.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
• Completion of foundations/clinical nursing course with at least one clinical rotation.
• Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe direct care to patients per unit plan and age-appropriate adjustments.
• Support hygiene, safety, and comfort needs of patients.
• Follow plans of care and hospital policy.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked clinical location and assist with supplies and equipment.
• Document patient data and vital signs per policy.
• Assist with specimen collection for diagnostics as needed.
• Attend mandatory trainings and adhere to training requirements.
• Contribute to patient safety and report issues to the care team.
• Establish rapport with patients and visitors and respond to instructions.

Education
