Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care within a hospital unit.

Responsibilities include conducting vital signs, assisting with admissions and discharges, newborn care, and responding to patient needs under RN supervision. Applicants should have CNA certification or nursing education, CPR/BLS, and a high school diploma, with healthcare experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have CNA certification or currently enrolled in nursing education with basic clinical rotations completed.
• CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers) recognized by the American Heart Association.
• High school diploma required; one year of college or nursing education or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with ability to relate to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes and provide direct patient care under RN guidance.
• Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height) and monitor intake/output.
• Assist with newborn care, feeding, glucose checks, and basic post-operative support as directed.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment and restock supplies; participate in quality improvement activities.
• Respond to patient calls and emergencies, document observations, and support RN with assessments.
