Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care. The role involves assisting with admissions, monitoring vital signs, phlebotomy duties, newborn care, and post-operative support in a fast-paced clinical unit.

The ideal candidate holds a CNA certification or is a nursing student with clinical rotations, is CPR certified (BLS for healthcare providers), and has strong health-safety training.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care Activities: Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge; takes and records vitals; measures intake/output; applies monitoring equipment; obtains EKG; newborn care and feeding; bed mobility; pre/post-operative assistance; transports patients; reports observations to RN.
• Indirect Patient Care: Maintains safe environment; assists RN with care and unit operations; inventories patient belongings; stocks supplies; assists with quality improvement and orientation.
