Job summary

Onward Education seeks an Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support a student with visual impairments. Deliver individualized O&M services aligned with the student's goals and educational plan, collaborating with the team to ensure accessibility and meaningful progress.

The role involves approximately 1 hour per week, on-site in Essex County, MA, with potential remote/virtual support for portions of service and evaluation completion as needed.

Qualifications

• COMS certification strongly preferred/required.
• ACVREP standards-aligned certification or completion of an ACVREP-aligned university O&M program.
• School-based experience or strong understanding of IEP-driven service delivery.
• Ability to provide services on-site with virtual options when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct O&M assessments and interpret findings to inform service planning.
• Provide direct instruction in safe travel skills, environmental orientation, spatial concepts, sensory cue utilization, cane skills, and obstacle negotiation.
• Support evaluation needs and document findings clearly for the educational team.
• Collaborate with families, educators, and related service providers to ensure consistency across settings.
• Participate in IEP meetings and maintain service documentation aligned with goals.
