Job summary

Ampersand Therapy is hiring a part-time Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to support students with visual impairments in Tumwater, WA. The role is in-person and school-based, with a schedule of 2 days per week.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Education (Master’s preferred), valid WA State ESA with Special Education endorsement, WA driver’s license, and First Aid/CPR certification. Strong collaboration and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education; master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
• Valid Washington State Education Staff Associate certificate with Special Education endorsement to serve as an O&M instructor.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Ability to complete required criminal background clearance.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct O&M evaluations and identify students’ short- and long-term needs.
• Teach students to travel safely and confidently in familiar and unfamiliar environments while building independence.
• Collaborate with teachers of students with visual impairments on functional vision assessments related to travel.
• Provide instruction and support aligned with each student’s IEP.
• Consult with families, teachers, school staff, and peers on strategies that support student independence and safety.
• Monitor progress and maintain evaluation reports, IEP documentation, progress notes, and other required records.
• Provide training to school staff and families on students’ O&M needs.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary school team.
