Job summary

Axle in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Data Science Fellow focused on organoid biochemistry. You will establish protein-focused biochemical capacity, linking organoid phenotype to molecular mechanisms, and implement APB-Display and SMA/SMALP workflows to extract native protein-lipid assemblies.

You will work with optical-methods postdocs, validate binders with orthogonal assays, and contribute to developing independent research programs in academia, government, or industry.

Qualifications

• PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology, protein chemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, cell biology, or related field.
• Hands-on recombinant protein expression and purification experience.
• Strong understanding of protein structure-function and membranes.
• Ability to work with mammalian cells and collaborate across teams.
• Document methods rigorously and analyze data with Python, R, MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Biochemical support for organoid projects including protein and nanobody production.
• Implement APB-Display and related protein screening workflows.
• Design focused nanobody libraries and affinity reagents.
• Perform quantitative screening and readouts; establish controls.
• Validate binders with orthogonal methods like ELISA or SPR.
• Establish SMA/SMALP membrane-protein workflows in relevant models.
• Coordinate membrane protein enrichment from organellar membranes.
• Develop nanobody-enabled labeling and perturbation workflows.
• Create SOPs and training materials; cross-train team members.
