Job summary

Gift of Life Michigan is seeking an Organ Recovery Specialist (ORS) to support organ procurement, preservation, packaging and labeling of organs and specimens. The ORS may also recover organs for research, tissues, and related programs in line with OPTN policies.

The ideal candidate is a Certified Surgical Technologist or has an associate degree, with at least one year of organ preservation or CST experience, and strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and aseptic technique.

Qualifications

• Written and verbal fluency in English.
• Initiative, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Teams.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Attention to detail and precise communication.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation with asepsis.
• Ability to set up trays and pass instruments.

Responsibilities

• Preserve, package and label organs and tissues during procurement.
• Oversee abdominal, thoracic preservation services for donor cases.
• Record and upload documentation in UNOS and Gift of Life systems.
• Transport organs and recovery supplies as directed.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
