Job summary

Center For Organ Recovery And Education (CORE) in Pittsburgh seeks an Organ Preservation Specialist I to coordinate organ and tissue recovery during post-mortem cases. You will work with hospital teams, surgeons and CORE leadership to ensure timely recoveries following OPTN standards.

The role involves supporting NRPs, REUP techniques when applicable, and managing organ preservation devices and labeling systems. A medical background with sterile technique and good communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Medical background and at least 1 year in a health-related field.
• Formal education in Surgical Technology, Forensic Autopsy, or Mortuary Sciences is considered.
• Ability to communicate well and exercise independent judgment.
• Strong literacy and professional conduct with donors and CORE partners.
• Experience with sterile technique and following regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical recovery of organs and tissues from donors.
• Support brain death and DCD pathways and NR/P procedures as applicable.
• Assist recovery teams and ensure timely operations per CORE policies.
• Manage preservation solutions and sterile equipment for donation activity.
• Package, label and verify donor information with precision for transplant or research.
• Support local transplant centers with organ delivery and fly-out recoveries.
