Job summary

The University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Center for Oral History in the College of Social Sciences, seeks a part-time casual Research Specialist for up to one year. The position supports oral history projects, with duties including interviews, transcription, and editing under extramural funding.

Working hours are Monday–Friday, 15 hours per week, with occasional evenings or weekends. Salary range is $26.69/hour. Employment is temporary and not eligible for regular benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in History from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of oral history research, transcription, and interviewing.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Working knowledge of transcription practices, oral history ethics, and the English language.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom.
• Ability to work outside of the normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Research and synthesize information related to Honouliuli National Historic Site.
• Conduct pre-interviews and oral history interviews.
• Index, abstract, transcribe, edit, and coordinate narrator review and approval of interview materials.
• Support Center for Oral History programs by editing audio/video files, selecting interview excerpts, participating in meetings and public programs, and completing other related duties as needed.
• Work outside the normal working hours, including evening, weekends, and holidays, as directed.
